Ideally, I think written words are good only if they have a power of its own. What kind of power? Power of getting the reader to believe in authenticity of what is being said by the author.
Repeating the point here, a piece of writing is truly good and useful if reader feels like believing it just by reading the piece based on own experience and capability to understand.

And, reader likes and believes it NOT because,
1. So and so established, branded, world class prize winning author said it.
2. Author used quotations and works of other well known / successful personalities to convey his point.
3. The piece of writing is published by a renowned publisher or it is published in renowned and/or popular journal, paper, etc.
4. Your dearest friend or hero endorsed that piece. And, personally or publicly recommended the read.
5. You are inspired and moved by the kind of life (personal life) this author leads or led.

But, this is an Ideal case, I guess. Ideal, hardly happens. Because, ideal things are ideal in thoughts and philosophy. They are exactly opposite of ideal when it comes to practice. Because, there is always a gap in what we think (notion) and what we do (action). Anyone who tries to be smart and tries to annihilate this gap, goes crazy in the mind. Believe me, if you will.
