The numbers are not all that waste. It manifests the business. Every activity is captured in terms of number. A number, for activity either revenue earning or cost incurring. But, it’s not as easy as I said. It depends highly on business logic of the person who set it for the other people to follow, like setting a business process. Dynamics change and so models must be changed too and here is a real task, to be able to clearly know what the number capturing process is like, and how to make a needed change in it . Each person, in the number capturing team needs to understand the changes and the logic for it.
Overheard seniors saying...“we are sending so much data, but they don’t understand the number, it is even more foolish”.... “talk in a language of ordinary man” ... so, they mean the top management do not understand how to use the data sent to them by the department and hence keep on asking for the data in the format they are friendly with! It makes me hopeful, that people at the top are there since ages in the business, they don't get damn spreadsheets, how am I supposed to get the hang of them in few months....
Maximum time goes in matching the numbers. And making various format for similar data.
I don’t have freedom to access entire data set and another even if I had; I would need years to make the funda straight. I need longer time for two facts..I am nothing smart and it aint simple… july 8, 2008
